The Belarusian State University is among 1% of best universities in the region of Emerging Europe and Central Asia


According to the results of the ranking published by the ranking agency QS on October 16, 2017, the Belarusian State University is on the TOP-25 list of the best universities in the region of Emerging Europe and Central Asia. The BSU has risen by 18 positions at once and is on the 21st place. Taking into account that there are more than 2900 universities in the region of Emerging Europe and Central Asia, now the BSU is among 1 % of best universities in the region.

The evaluation of activities of higher educational institutions is carried out according to 9 criteria: Academic reputation, Employer reputation, Faculty/student ratio, Staff with a PhD, Papers per faculty, Citations per paper, Web impact, International faculty and International students. .


The highest positions of BSU in the new ranking are based on such criteria as academic reputation, reputation among employers and the faculty/student ratio. This demonstrates the consistently high quality of teaching at BSU, as well as the established reputation of the university not only in the country but in the world as the basis of the rating is a survey of international experts.


The top line of the rating is Lomonosov Moscow State University. It is followed by Novosibirsk State University, Tartu University (Estonia), St. Petersburg State University, Charles University (Czech Republic). Belarusian universities besides the Belarusian State University are represented by the Belarusian National Technical University (79th), as well as the BSUIR (118th place) and Yanka Kupala Grodno State University (a place in the group 191-200).


The ranking of universities of Emerging Europe and Central Asia include universities from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine.

The Belarusian State University is high on the lists of influential international rankings (QS, THE, Webometrics, SIR, U-Multirank, etc.), consistently being among 1–2 percent of the best universities in the world. For example, QS World University Rankings 2017/18 lists the BSU on the 334th place. In 2017 the Belarusian State University for the first time ever among all Belarusian higher education institutions was listed by the oldest and one of the most prestigious world rankings — ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2017 in Physics and took a place in the group 401-500. BSU remains the only Belarusian university to be listed by the prestigious British ranking THE (Times Higher Education).
