International seminar “TEMPUS Program in Belarus” was held at the BSU on October 4th. The seminar was organized  by the National Tempus Office of Belarus in cooperation with the BSU. The seminar was targeted at university staff involved in project-writing and aimed at preparing them to submit project proposals for the upcoming tempus program call 2012.

Seminar was opened by the Minister of Education of Belarus Sergey Maskevich. In particular he underlined the importance of the Tempus program for modernization of higher education of Belarus, sharing experience and now-how, promoting Belarus to European partners. S.Maskevich encouraged Belarusian universities to take an active part in the upcoming projects contest.

Nikolai Listopad, Coordinator of NTO Belarus, delivered presentation entitled  «TEMPUS Program in Belarus: Overview of Running Projects, Analysis of 5th Call for Proposals Results, Further Activities». He made a brief overview of Tempus program in Belarus for last ten years and focused on some aspects of project-writing under the tempus program.

Chief-Inspector of the Foreign Relations Office of the Ministry of Education of Belarus Kirill Derjabin informed seminar participants about the rules and procedures of registration (national approval) of international projects in Belarus.

Yury Vojtukevich, Vice-Rector of Grodno State University shared the experience of Grodno State University in managing international projects.

Finally, Vadim Reznikov, Head of the Department of International Relations of Belarusian State University in his presentation «Experience of the TEMPUS Projects realization in Belarus State University» made an in-depth analysis of tempus projects implemented by the BSU since of the start of the program in Belarus – 1994. He emphasised that the BSU has implemented almost one third of all tempus projects in Belarus. This fact  makes our university the most experienced in Tempus among universities of Belarus.

International cooperation under this program allowed the BSU to establish a professionalized international office, introduce ECTS-compatible technologies into the education process, design study programs in the sphere of information and communication, European economic law, European studies, ecology, energy saving, environment, nature protection and other fields of study.

Today the BSU runs 4 tempus projects:
1.    ENERGY - Development of Training Network for Improving Education in Energy Efficiency (coordinator: Riga Technical University, Latvia)
2.    HUMAN - Human Security (environment, quality of food, public health and society) on territories contaminated by Radioactive agents          (coordinator: University of Cordoba, Spain);
3.    INURE - Integrated University Management System: EU Experience on NIS Countries’ Ground (coordinator: Koblenz-Landau University, Germany);
4.    SUCSID - Inter-university Start-up centers for students’ innovationsdevelopment & promotion (coordinator: University Montpellier 2, France)

The high number of international projects including Tempus projects implemented at the BSU shows that our university is considered as a central point of adaptation of innovations and their multiplication to other universities in Belarus.
