Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics

The Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics is one of the main Departments at the Belarusian State University. Since the foundation of the Belarusian State University in 1921, it remained a branch of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. In October of 1958, it divided in two faculties: the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Mathematics. In 1970, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics was created on the foundation of the Faculty of Mathematics, and in 1975, it was renamed as the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics.

Staff:    32 Professors and Doctors of Sciences, 65 Associate Professors and Senior Lectures, 26 Associate Professors and over 1 200 Students.

Practical-oriented Master's
(with in-depth study of special subjects, does not include candidate examinations *)

It is well known that the best IT specialists are mathematicians, because they have analytical thinking, the ability to quickly learn and find solutions to non-trivial tasks. Preparation of undergraduates in the specialty "Mathematics and Information Technologies" is carried out in close cooperation with the leading IT companies of the country (EPAM Systems, IBA IT Park, HiQo Solutions, Itransition, Exadel, Qulix Systems).

Form and duration of studies
5-year bachelor degree education
  • fulltime (budget, paid) - 1 year
  • parttime (budget, paid) - 1,5 years
4-year bachelordegreeeducation
  •  fulltime (budget, paid) - 2 years
  •  parttime (budgetary, paid) - 2,5 years

The form of training: full time (budget, paid),  part time (budget, paid)
The system analyst is a specialist who is able to qualitatively formalize and quantitatively interpretate the processes and phenomena, using various methods and ways for evaluating the model formed. He can look at the problem from different sides and see the whole process as a single unit. The analyst is able to assess the strengths and weaknesses, calculate all possible risks and losses, and also make an informed forecast for the further state of the problem. BSU and Magdeburg University of Otto-von-Guericke carry out a co-operative training of undergraduates, within this trainings students have the opportunity to study in Germany for 5 months at the expense of the host country.
Master'sprogram:
  • Actual problems of applied system analysis
  • The construction of models of real phenomena and processes
  • Analysisofdistributedweb-systems
  • AdaptiveSystems
  • Analysis and modeling of information systems
  • NeuralnetworkmodelinginMatlab
  • Computer Mathematical Environment for Analysis of Systems and Processes
  • ModerncomputerEnglish
  • Pedagogy and psychology of the higher school

* The master of the practical-oriented magistracy also has the opportunity to study and pass the candidate's exams and credits on a fee basis for the following disciplines: "Fundamentals of Information Technology", "Foreign Language", "Philosophy and Methodology of Science" and after graduating from magistracy to enter postgraduate study.
