Chair of Theoretical and Institutional Economics

General Information:

The chair, as a division of the university, was founded in 1940. It initially functioned as the Chair of Political Economy 
of Humanitarian Departments (1972–1991) and then as the Chair of Economic Sciences of the Philosophy and Economics 
Department (1991–2002). Since May 2002, it has been known as the Chair of Theoretical and Institutional Economics 
within the Economics Department.

The chair trains highly-qualified specialists in Economic Theory.

Speciality: 1–25 01 01 "Economic Theory".

Specializations: 1) Economic Policy; 2) History of Economic Thought; 3) World Economy; 
4) Economic Aspects of Scientific and Technological Development.

Qualification: Economist. Teacher of Economic Courses.

Economic Theory is one of the classical university specialities that provides fundamental and full-fledged knowledge 
concerning the performance and development of the economic system, its industries and sectors. An individual approach, 
creativity, broad education, corporate continuity, and professional support are the basic principles of education here. 
The combination of solid theoretical background and practical experience, including that based on the use of modern 
computer technologies, allows graduates to successfully compete at labor markets in Belarus and abroad.

The first admission of students to a Bachelor's degree program was in 1966. Since 2005, there has been a one-year 
Master's degree program in Economic Theory. The chair also has an appropriate program for PhD students.

The current chair faculty consists of 26 persons, including 1 professor and 14 associate professors.

Research:

The research activity of the chair is regulated by targeted topics. These are as follows:

  • 2010–2015: Principles and Specific Characteristics of the Institutional Organization 
    and Evolution of the Social and Economic System of Belarus.
  • 2005–2009: Institutional Factors and Forms of the National Economy's Transition 
    to an Innovation-Intensive Strategy of Development.
  • 1999–2004: Belarusian Economy and Global Processes.

Moreover, the chair faculty and students research according to individual or collective contracts, grants, etc.

On the basis of the chair, there is a monthly scientific and methodological seminar on topical issues 
of economic science and teaching methodology.

The chair regularly organizes "Political and Economic Readings" in the form of international conferences, 
research-to-practice seminars, round tables, poster presentations, mass media discussions, etc. 
and publishes scientific and methodological papers and reports.
